June Matharia is a normal Kenyan 16-year-old. She's got her mum and her great-grandma, she enjoys school. But two days after her exams, her mum sits her down and gives her a plane ticket and a photograph. Now she's got to spend the entire holiday in a tiny rural village on the South Coast, getting to know her father and his family. Trouble is, they don't seem especially keen on getting to know her. Eventually her step-sister Tana puts aside her jealousy. June, Tana and Ali, Tana's best friend, turn their backs on the parents who don't seem to want them and find their peace in an abandoned hotel in the dense forest. But what happens when developers come to tear the hotel down?
