Histoire fidèle de la bête en Gévaudan

As the title says, this book tries to give a faithful description of the events that occurred in the Gévaudan area in the 18th century, when an unknown creature terrorised the countryside and villages. This book isn't a novel, but it's not a dry summing up of events either, which makes it quite an easy readable and accessible work.
