Greencomber.: Science Fiction Crime Club Double d Western, Science Fiction
Peter Tate Greencomber once scoured the tide line for a living until a team with metal detectors forced him inland to comb the greenery and seek the contentment that automation had washed from his beloved seashores. Instead, he finds beautiful Singer and two children being held by a doctor in a woodland castle for Auschwitz-style experiments. Greencomber thwarts the doctor and flees with them into the forest. They take refuge in a village and every night, autumn falls, blocking the lanes with leaves. The militia who turn up to help have a disturbing familiarity for Greencomber. Wherever he goes - to a crumbling coast where erosion is devouring homes; to a forest clearing whose history of unnatural death fascinates him - the men are never far behind. Every step he takes seems preordained and at the end of the trail waits ritual murder.
