When Tryphena Sabine unexpectedly inherits the imposing mansion of Tanglewood on the Yorkshire Moors, terrible memories are awakened of her unhappy girlhood, a doomed love affair, and the unwelcome attentions of Reginald Jarrald - ominously known as the Shadow Hunter. But when she reaches Tanglewood she finds a house haunted by more than just memories... A forgotten classic of supernatural fiction, J.E. Preston Muddock's gothic novella, The Shadow Hunter, was first published in 1887. Later, as "Dick Donovan", Muddock became well-known as a writer of detective stories, but he also published several tales of terror, more than thirty of which are also included in this collection.
