This book introduces the larvae of different animal phyla and their life histories with many photographs and illustrations. Animals are classified into about 40 groups (phylum, pl. phyla). Each animal phylum shares a certain set of characteristics. However, larvae may look quite different from the adult for example, a caterpillar is the larval form of butterflies. Many people have never seen or recognized many animal larvae. This book concisely describes the larvae of different animal phyla and compare them with the adult forms. This book is a companion volume of the author’s previous work, “Miracle Animals on introduction to the animal kingdom.” I highly recommend to read both books to understand the animals living on our planet. About the author The author was born in a rural seaside town in Ehime, Japan. He grew up in a rich natural environment and currently is an associate professor at Kyoto University Seto Marine Biological Laboratory in Shirahama, Wakayama, Japan. His research focuses on marine organisms especially, the systematics of Cnidarians.
