The Nine Witches of Glawster
Eliza Granville Nine years ago Gwynn was found abandoned in The Vorest remembering nothing of his previous life. Now he’s become an apprentice to the nine witches of Glawster. Gwynn is prepared to put up with a lot to learn about the practice of magic, and he does. Life with the witches is not easy – these are strong-minded women who virtually controlled Glawster before the unfortunate floods – but life is difficult everywhere in 3010. There was no apocalypse. Civilisation simply gave up on itself and people went back to grubbing in the dirt for some sort of an existence. The city is plagued by seagulls, its cathedral serves as the madhouse, and the outside world is little more than a rumour. Slowly, aided by dreams, visions, and exasperation with the witches, together with prompting by the eccentric Puck, Gwynn begins to remember where he came from. He needs to get back and Puck is being evasive. A complication arises. Nine years ago, the witches were involved in a robust sex game with Man McMan, a fearsome Irish gambler passing through Glawster on his way back from the racing in Chelnumb. Unfortunately, Man overdid things and died. The witches decided it would be advantageous to their trade to claim they killed him. In order to instil further terror they nailed his hide to their front door. Now Little McMan, the younger brother, is sailing up the Brizzle Channel to wreak revenge on the witches and wipe Glawster from the map. The witches’ only hiding place is in the past.
