A Few Gypsies

AUTHOR'S NOTE: This is a book about gypsies and every chapter of it ends with a short story in which these people figure. I hope this will not be confusing. The fact, so far as it can ever be, is fact and the fiction no more than fiction. They are not mixed but used in turn to illustrate different aspects of gypsy life, or to reveal oddities of gypsy character. So far as possible I have kept words of Romanes out of the text.
