Old Mill Road: A science fiction novelette of terror
Del Stone Jr. A small town sheriff and his rookie deputy are involved in a nighttime high-speed pursuit when the suspect vehicle turns down a forgotten backroad and accelerates. The sheriff screams at the deputy to break off the pursuit, and the deputy, hearing a note of terror in the sheriff’s voice, brings the patrol car to a skidding halt. As the suspects disappear in a cloud of road dust, the sheriff and deputy wait … for the sun to rise. The sheriff tells a story of a personal experience he had on this road when he was a young man, and of the horror that inhabits the darkness surrounding Old Mill Road. Del Stone Jr. is the winner of the International Horror Guild Award for best first novel. His work has also appeared in anthologies that went on to win the Bram Stoker and World Fantasy awards. He’s been a finalist for the IHG, Stoker and British Fantasy awards, and was nominated for a Pushcart Prize. His novella “Black Tide” and short story “Crisis Line” are headed to film.
