Containing What Katy Did and What Katy Did At School. What Katy Did follows the adventures of a twelve-year-old American girl, Katy Carr, and her family, who live in the fictional lakeside Ohio town of Burnet in the 1860s. Katy is a tall, untidy tomboy, forever getting into scrapes but wishing to be beautiful and beloved. When a terrible accident makes her an invalid, her illness and four-year recovery gradually teach her to be as good and kind as she has always wanted. What Katy Did At School What Katy Did at School takes place shortly after the close of What Katy Did, when Katy is recovered from her accident. She is now sixteen, and a very serious, grown-up, responsible young person. Too grown up, her father thinks, so decides to send her, with her sister Clover, away to boarding school, in order to remind her what it is to be young. Certainly it's not possible for Katy to stay altogether solemn and serious at Hillsover school, resulting in often disastrous attempts to follow classroom rules and playground codes of behaviour.
