A short prequel to the Uncivil Wars series, in which a Lancashire Dissenter's runaway whelp first meets an overbred Essex boy with more money than sense, in a brothel in 17th century Amsterdam, and the pair of them fall foul of the Amazon who owns the place. It's not the most auspicious beginning to a twenty-year friendship, but everyone's got to start somewhere...
