Someday Will Be Too Late

Short story. The new laws allowing indentured service may be salvation or a return to slavery. It all depends. Times are hard, you've lost your husband, and your children are still young. You'll sacrifice anything for them, even your freedom. Because that's all you have left. The government calls it bonded service, but everyone knows what it really is: indentured servitude. The abolitionists tell you it's a return to a bad old past, but what choice do you have? Fifteen years and you'll be free again. That isn't so bad, is it? Except for missing your children. But you're doing it for them, and you'll be together again -- someday.
