Gene How Mendel turns a piece of cloth red, learns some chemistry, meets two special women and gets elected. Women's fashion and the desire for highly-colored cloth was the strange starting point for the new science of chemistry; the manipulation of atoms and molecules into valuable new forms and properties. Brother Gregory is trapped into helping others turn cloth red - for a wedding - while also running for election - to allow his friend to escape imprisonment.
