Grieve: Short stories for Grief Awareness month 2013

When we grieve, a cliché is at its most hollow: 'everything will be ok', 'she's in a better place', 'he wouldn't want you to cry', 'you'll get over it.' These are borrowed words, phrases uttered to bring more comfort to the speaker than the person grieving. While many of us have moved beyond the cliché these days, do we know what to say instead? This anthology, published by Hunter Writers Centre describes, with fresh and honest words, what it means to grieve. A writer's role is always to find the right words to express what we feel and Grief Awareness month is the perfect time to collect those words. The twenty-five stories in this collection are the shortlisted works from Hunter Writers Centre's inaugural writing competition for Grief Awareness month, 2013. Features short stories by Holly Bruce, Catherine Moffat, Denise Murray, Alain Khouri, Andrea Apitz, James Turvey, Wendy Gunthorpe, Bev Henwood, Anthony Wood, Ruth Myors, Maree Gallop, Zoë Disher, Michael McGowan, Lauren Fitzpatrick, Kathryn Fry, Megan Buxton, Sheree Christoffersen, Edward Bassingthwaighte, Karen Eastwood, Meryl Dunton-Rose, Natalie Petrohelos, Brenda Proudfoot, Anne Walsh Miller, Carolyn Martinez, Gabrielle Clover, Kathleen Wurth and Karen Crofts.
