Ranald Blaikie, sailing the two-masted schooner "Tuscarora" from Bath to Edenton for his father and his partner, is boarded by pirates, captured, and forced to navigate the vessel for them because their captain is ill, Thus Ranald sets out to live the life of a pirate in the Atlantic and Caribbean in the year 1741. He must make some important decisions about loyalty in an age when piracy was not an unbridled criminal act and in which many gentlemen of fortune became rich through acts of piracy.
