County Folk-lore Vol. III: Orkney and Shetland Islands

Volume three of the Folklore Society's County Folk-lore series brings together excerpts of traditions, lore, beliefs and customs from a wide selection of authors and historical sources from the Orkneys and Shetland Islands. With their unique blend of Norse and Gaelic influences, Black covers a variety of subjects including the traditional music and song, legends and tales of selkies (seal people), noogles and trows, as well as traditional charms, counter-charms and spells, with extensive excerpts from witchcraft trial records from the seventeenth century.
