Steven Lloyd The primary impetus for this book is the denial of so many Christians of the sufficiency of the Bible in helping them with their emotional-mental-spiritual problems. The book is based on two premises. The first is that the Bible is inspired of God and profitable for teaching, reproof, correction, and instruction that the man of God may be complete, furnished completely unto every good work (2 Timothy 3:16-17). The second is that God has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness through a knowledge of His Son (2 Peter 1:3).It is not a “self-help” book because I do not believe the answer is in us just waiting to be discovered upon further reflection. The answers are with God. That is why God provides man with His written word.Self-help books tell us what has pragmatically helped some people...sometimes. This book begins with the Word of God as the divine standard and strives to move the reader to accept certain basic truths to effectively cope with the problems or challenges life throws their way. Its solutions work, and from that standpoint, it is pragmatic. Pragmatism is not a good basis for truth, but truth is tested, in part, pragmatically or practically; in other words, by whether it works.
