The Tribe

Libraries could be filled with books about what it means to be Irish. The Tribe is a story of what it is to be Bronx Irish. It is a story of friends growing up in an era of upheaval, Depression and world war, navigating the world beyond the reassuring confines of their native borough. Like their forebears, who left the Irish homeland behind, they left behind Irish neighborhoods now barely remembered but in pages such as these. This is, beneath the fiction, my dad's story. He wrote it at a time when he'd already accomplished much for which to be proud. Yet he ventured something new, pouring himself into the fiction that fills these pages. For his family, 'tis a thing to treasure.
