Kevin Krogh During the summer of 1968, fourteen-year-old Sandra Soledad Rojas Garcia meets sixteen-year-old Kevin Krapinski in the sugar beet fields of southern Idaho. She dreams of escaping the impoverished migrant farm labor culture she was born into; he searches for evidence that he might hope for something other than the example of his parents’ and grandparents’ loveless marriages. Circumstances seemingly beyond their control conspire against either dreaming of something beyond their brief but joyful summer friendship. But some things are just meant to be.
