Ewan Fox is a lonely 10 year old boy with few friends who finds it difficult to fit in at his new school. One July afternoon while hunting around for a DVD he falls through a portal into another world. In this world he meets a strange race of small glowing white beings known as Portal Keepers who guide him to the interior of a huge mountain. Within this mountain is a large spiraling pathway and lining the walls of this pathway are thousands upon thousands of portal doors into other worlds, landscapes and places. Here he meets, a girl called Michey who also fell through the same door he did. It has been foretold by “The Entity” that a child called Fox would save the mountain from the one called “him” an evil hateful force that threatens to destroy the mountain and all that is within it. Fox and Michey must find their way around the maze of entrance and exit points and find the door back home, as well as solving the many problems that jumping through the portal doors presents. Together they discover worlds of darkness and fear, sadness and sorrow, happiness and brightness, beauty and tranquility, the bizarre and the strange. They must use all their strength and intelligence, to figure it all out, defeat the one called 'Him'
