A princess. A cephalopod. And a promise made to the sea. After years serving in the Cephalopod Army, Nikoline moves to the Western Cove to start a new, quiet life. Yet within days of settling into her new home, she receives an invitation to the princess’s eighteenth birthday celebration. Much to her surprise, the princess was not what Nikoline ever imagined. Going by the name Bakkespore, the princess is more than a gorgeous mermaid with a chattering tongue. Instead, she dreams of a future where the land and sea unite as one. Despite Nikoline’s hesitancy around humanity, she agrees to help Bakkespore. With a magical promise to the sea, they venture onto dry land to fulfill Bakkespore’s dream, only to be met with nightmares. A retelling inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s The Little Mermaid, with a touch of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby, follow Nikoline and Bakkespore as they travel to the surface world with a promise and a dream.
