Sitting atop a mountain with only one road in or out, Saedra Pendragon University is built upon the ruins of an ancient castle, and its secrets are as bountiful as the evergreen trees that grow on the mountain side. Though well known for the mages they produce, rumors of dark, twisted activity in the shadows have made their way through the halls for decades, and while the school denies their validity, the list of past and present missing students doesn’t quite help their claim to innocence.
All Teddy Pennyworth has ever wanted is freedom, and a chance to make something of herself. She has spent her entire life fighting for independence, while living stifled under her father’s thumb. When her father suddenly dies under suspicious circumstances, Teddy’s uncle finally grants her wish, with a caveat: She must attend Saedra Pendragon University. Though Teddy has no interest in becoming a mage, she knows this is likely the only chance at freedom she might ever get.
As classes begin, and Teddy makes new friends, the one person who captivates her more than anyone else ever has is Henry Knight, a sweet and silent mage who becomes her sole obsession. Henry has lived within the walls of the university since childhood, his nose pressed firmly into the pages of his books. With an unheard of type of Divination magic, Henry has taken care to keep himself out of the public eye as much as possible. Claiming him is now all she desires, even when she knows it could be the thing that destroys them both.
Hidden cultists surround her, ghostly apparitions haunt her, and a priest wants to destroy her. There are dark forces at work that will stop at nothing to get what they want—and what they want is Teddy. She will have to learn to embrace her inner darkness if she wants to keep Henry safe, and make it out of the school year alive.
