Delphi had big plans for a great summer. She was going to spend every waking moment with Nick. They looked great together. He was tall and blond, and Delphi got her dark beauty and copper hair from her African-American mother and Greek-American father. - After Delphi met Nick's mother and grandmother however, he seemed different. When she finally got him to explain, Delphi was stunned to hear that Nick's family thought he shouldn't date a black girl. But she had never thought of herself as black. She was just one of the kids.
