Eric Christiansen A major focus in petrology and mineralogy courses is studying and analyzing thin sections of rocks and minerals. Unfortunately, the necessary tools are expensive and scarce in most geology departments. Students need to share the few petrographic and electron microscopes that are available, and as a result, gain much less experience than is necessary. PetroGlyph was designed as an answer to this problem. PetroGlyph is a virtual microscope that provides over 30 virtual thin sections of igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary rocks. The product is a dual platform CD-ROM which includes an accompanying user's manual. Tool bars provided for realistic simulation of actual electron and petrographic microscopes - gives the student realistic experience using these important tools. Self graded quizzes provided for each thin section - student can test his/her progress while working. Makes the CD a self-guided teaching tool. Dual platform CD-ROM - accessible to virtually all schools.
