Nan Chauncy's new book tells the story of an unusual hunt for treasure - with an unexpected ending. Huon Trivett, orphaned and living with relations to learn farming, hears that his father left him an island off the east coast of Tasmania. The island, though remote, tiny and uninhabited, holds, according to a torn page from his father's diary, 'a fortune for the brave'. Courage is indeed called for, both to seek and to hold what is hidden on the island, and Huon has many difficulties to surmount before he finds the treasure and establishes his right to it. A Fortune for the Brave is the third of Nan Chauncy's Tasmanian stories, and again her own delight in that corner of the world fills her writing with enjoyment.
