Human Freedom and the Self (Lindley Lecture) - ASIN B0007IVLO4 In this lecture, Chisholm develops a libertarian agent-causal theory of action, according to which freedom of the sort required for moral responsibility is accounted for by the existence of agents who possess a causal power to make choices without being determined to do so. In this view, it is crucial that the kind of causation involved in an agent's making a free choice is not reducible to causation between events but is rather irreducibly an instance of a substance causing a choice. When such an agent acts freely, she can be inclined but not causally determined to act by factors such as reasons, desires, and beliefs.
