Friedrich Karl Forberg "This book was first published in 1824 in Latin and Greek. Friedrich Karl Forberg, a German scholar with an interest in sexology, combed the classical authors and many of a later date for their reports on sexual phenomena. He gathered them together and classified them according to subject (copulation, pedication, fellatio, masturbation, cunnilingus, lesbianism, bestiality and multiple relations) and discussed them in an objective manner. This--many years before Krafft-Ebing and Havelock Ellis!
Forberg's book was translated into English--the only English translation--and published by Viscount Julian Smithson in 1884. All subsequent editions are based on this 1884 translation. But that 1884 translation was filled with mistakes--and even the Latan and Greek enface was riddled with errors. Further, the learned Forberg assumed that his readers would also be scholars, so he didn't bother to explain the hundreds of allusions he made.
Now, HOLLOWAY HOUSE and Milton Van Sickle have corrected the many mistakes and have explained the obscure statements in this, the only correct and readable English edition of Forberg's nearly 150-year-old masterpiece of erotology." (from the back of the book)
