Tender Trapper

Rebecca Hazelton's chapbook Tender Trapper opens with simple lines—"There were things / we were hungry for. We had to survive"—but these poems are anything but simple. An ekphrastic series based on paintings by Julie Heffernan, the poems reverberate with sharp rhythms and a deft use of the white space on the page. A winner of The Discovery/Boston Review Prize, Hazelton is a new voice to keep an eye on, with her first two books, Fair Copy and Vow, forthcoming from The Ohio State Press and Cleveland State University Press, respectively.
