Finding Buddy Bolden, First Man of Jazz: The Journal of a Search

There is a very intriguing and interesting story behind Marquis' search for the facts that enabled him to put together the remarkable and historically important book, In Search of Buddy Bolden. Fortunately, his alma mater, Goshen College, recognized the importance of documenting the almost unbelievable research job which he accomplished and prevailed upon him to put together an account of how persistence, obsession and hard work gave the world a biography of a man who played his last note in New Orleans in 1906, and has since become the most legendary of all jazz figures. This book, Finding Buddy Bolden, answers the questions about how, when and where the biography was done.
