How the World Will End & other Flash Fiction

A collection of five stories of flash fiction--almost prose poems--most under 1000 words. How the World Will End - By ice or by fire, by whimper or bang, or perhaps in a blaze of nuclear annihilation that will leave only dead air in the place of newscasts and ghost towns in the stead of once-vibrant cities, and through those radiation-drenched landscapes perhaps people will find their way to edible food and potable water before they ascend mountains to watch strange-colored aurorae under which they will perish together. Wandering - Sometimes, the dating life--and the period between good dates--can feel like wandering in a desert, unsure of where one might find solace or rest. Imperfect Thirst - There in the desert, in the midst of prayer and fast, Jesus of Nazareth was thrice tempted with physical comfort, and to be tempted is to demonstrate vulnerability and humanity. Without both, temptation cannot exist; in the presence of either, it can be irresistible, and only then can it be overcome. Perfect Day for a Ride - There isn't much reason to own a vehicle in New York City--which is a town for walking and subways and limousines if ever there was one--but sometimes there's a good reason for a car, and it has nothing to do with traveling and everything to do with how one does so. A Million Distant Shores - Long lost love can cling to one's heart as fine sand clings to flesh newly refreshed by the sea, and sometimes new heights and new horizons are the only ways to gain new perspective. All work in this collection was previously published in the author's self-titled debut collection.
