The Scapegoat

They met purely by chance – Jean the Frenchman and John the Englishman. Standing before the mirror in a Paris restaurant, they gazed and their reflections. It was uncanny: they were as alike as identical twins! Amazed at the resemblance, they dined together. The next morning John awoke from a drugged sleep to find himself in a strange hotel. The Frenchman had taken John’s baggage and papers and left his double to assume the lifestyle he no longer wanted and the responsibilities he could no longer face.
