Inside the Gannett/USA Today Corporate Headquarters: Lehman-Smith + McLeish
Nancy Princenthal The Gannett/USA Today corporate headquarters represents a thorough restudy of the office building. In its design, every aspect of the office environment was critically reconsidered, from the individual's work area, to the planning principles of the layout, to the exterior form of the building, to the ecology of the site. The resulting complex follows no familiar precedents.
The client is a two-part corporate Gannett Co., Inc., one of the largest diversified news and information companies in the United States, and USA Today, the nation's largest selling newspaper, with an average daily readership of 5.4 million. In addition, USA Today is available in more than 60 countries worldwide.
The realization of this project involves the expression of these two identities within a single corporate campus - a unified architectural solution that mirrors the required functions within. The monumental scope of this endeavor reflects the complexity of the client organization. Guided by the design team, Gannett/USA Today was able to shape not only the form of their new headquarters, but the structure of their business.
