A peaceful summer morning in Brighton is shattered when a Zeppelin airship crashes on a school playing field. The town's residents are fearful this indicates the start of another war with Germany, but Clara Fitzgerald suspects the incident is far more local in its origins. Racing to the crash site, she discovers the only person aboard is dead, shot in mysterious circumstances. Meanwhile, Gilbert McMillan, sleazy newspaper reporter, is hot on the case as well.
