Newspaperman Robin Bishop is on assignment in Morgantown to cover a fruit workers strike. The Joaquin valley town is roasting in the summer heat and the peaches are ready to be picked. Armed townspeople square off against the striking workers. Gunfire and melee ensue but the only victim is a town doctor sitting at his desk. Bishop figures out that it was no accident and sticks around town to file stories and solve the murder.
