The Church, What Is It?

If a ship was traveling from Cordova, Alaska, to San Francisco, California, and its navigation was 1 degree off, eventually it would wind up in Chile, South America. Jesus only mentioned the word church twice in all of His teachings. Do you suppose that we have today what He intended? Or could it be that the church got 1 degree off 1500 years ago and has not only missed the bull's-eye, but the target altogether?
