It seems that the two donkeys, Benjamin & J.J., have at long last found happiness when they arrive at their new home on a small farm in the remote hills. Their owners are elderly but kind, and, for a time, life for the donkeys is idyllic. Then the old farmer dies, and his widow sells the farm. The donkeys sense that they are no longer welcome here with the new owner. Will they be sent to yet another, and perhaps unhappy, home? They decide to escape and head for the wild moorland beyond the dark forest where they will be able to live, peacefully and happily, far from humans. But the moor is a windswept place beset with dangers which the donkeys have not encountered before. How can they possibly survive in the wild?
