Austin English's long awaited The Disgusting Room is a complex and misleadingly simple narrative. Margaret walks into the kitchen and finds Bobby wearing an off-putting expression. He covers it up and is quickly back to throwing his weight around. Theo comes into Bobby and Margaret's small apartment for his reading lesson. Bobby finds him physically repulsive. That night, out on the town together, Bobby and Margaret are slipped a note from a threatening couple. That note sets into motion a series of events that shape how Theo, Bobby and Margaret live within their rooms. The art is an evolution in the expressionist styles that English has worked in before. The new larger size allows for a more personal relationship with the art.
