Rabbits have a high reproductive ratecompared to other livestock. Theybecome sexually mature within a fewmonths of birth and have relativelyshort pregnancies. They producelarge litters and are unique in thatthey can be rebred immediatelyafter kindling (giving birth). With anintensive breeding program, a doecan be expected to have 60 weanedyoung a year. Such intensive breedingis not recommended, however, forthe beginner and is seldom used incommercial production.
