Harry and Honor Maude began a lifelong involvement with the Gilbertese people in 1929 when Harry was appointed to the then Colony Administration service. Since retirement they have concentrated on returning to the present generation of Gilbertese Islanders their historical heritage as dictated by their grandparents in the early part of the century. This knowledge is essential for their social cohesion in the Independent Republic of Kiribati. This book records their traditional history from the earliest times and is the sixth book in the project.
