Benjy's luck

When Benjy reached into his pocket, he made a terrible discovery, his lucky penny was gone. Now he would never be lucky enough to get the two dollars he needed to buy the little beagle puppy he wanted so much. Benjy was completely discouraged, even though his father had told him that luck could never take the place of hard work. Then he had a wonderful idea. He would win the two dollars at the local horse show. Unfortunately, Benjy was too young to be comfortable on one of the Family's horses. On the day of the show, to the horror of his brothers, Benjy rode into the ring on Jack, the mule. Against the background of a large Amish family living on a big farm, Edith Brecht has given us a warm and amusing story with Benjy, a boy to be reckoned with.
