The topic of early American Wars receives a new treatment through this perspective-based series. First-hand accountsfrom generals, foot soldiers, enemy combatants, and ordinary civiliansallow for a full range of perspectives on the political, strategic, tactical, and cultural experience of these typically less examined conflicts. The personal stories or portraits within each book put a far more human face on the potentially abstract machinations of war, making vivid just what the stakes were for not only the nation but for individual participants.
