Parnassus on Wheels

One day Helen McGill up and left her farm, her author brother, her bread-baking, and her housewife life—just to become a travelling tinker, no less. It never would have happened if Roger Mifflin hadn't come rolling along in his wagon bookshop, looking to sell the contraption—complete with his white horse Pegasus and his dog Boccaccio. Helen, being 38 and a spinster, was captivated by the energy and humor of small, wiry, red-haired Mr. Mifflin (authors like her brother tended to be a rather dull lot). Anyhow, what was one more loaf of bread compared to owning Parnassus on Wheels, a gateway to adventure among the hills of New England? So off went Helen and Mr. Mifflin in the wheeling Parnassus (he was going back to Brooklyn to write a book). But before long, Helen found herself in a heap of fun and a ton of trouble. And, strangely enough, fun and trouble turn out to be a great combination for love.
